MEET THE TEAM
At the Winelands Rheumatology Centre, our Rheumatologists are also experts in a large spectrum of immune-mediated connective tissue diseases and vasculitis, which may affect organs other than the joints such as the lungs, the heart, the brain, and in fact, all organ systems.
We are dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases and systemic immune mediated conditions, commonly referred to as rheumatic diseases such as osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, SLE and fibromyalgia.
Our Rheumatologists are backed by Dr Frieda Esterhuyse, a family physician together with our professional nursing team and efficient administrative support personnel. All three of our rheumatologists have academic links and are actively involved in clinical research and teaching.
Our Staff
Our staff includes rheumatologists, general practitioners, nursing sisters, and administrative and financial support staff,
- Prof Helmuth Reuter, trained in internal medicine, infectious diseases and rheumatology in the UK, the USA and South Africa,
- Dr Gareth Tarr, trained in rheumatology in Johannesburg and is currently enrolled for a PhD at Stellenbosch University,
- Prof Bridget Hodkinson, trained in Johannesburg and obtained a PhD at Wits.
- Dr Cooper, trained at Tygerberg and plays an active part in the team.
The Winelands Rheumatology Centre's Administrative staff are at the core of the practice executing the daily management tasks of the reception areas, finance and clinical liaison between Doctor's and patients. All patient applications for Biologic medications with Medical Aid's, Pharmacies and Nursing Staff are taken care of by this Department.
